At the end of the 2016 academic year, Sant’Anselmo’s new prior, Father Mauritius Wilde, commissioned Sant’Anselmo’s photographer to take a photo of the departing residents. “We should make this a tradition,” he said, “so that in a few years, we will have a collection of these photos for the archives and for our former residents.” The photographer agreed, and since then, a group photo has been taken at the end of each Spring semester.
This year, Prior Mauritius decided to publish the collection on the web site. All the years from 2016 to 2024 are represented, except for 2021, when the Covid pandemic precluded group gatherings. The results are fascinating and clarifying: Each of these men has been significantly impacted by their experience of living in an international community of Benedictine monks. In turn, they have influenced their fellow residents by celebrating their nationalities, languages, and cultures in a community of prayer, study and growth unlike any other.
At Sant’Anselmo, we achieve this through the teachings of Christ and the sentiment of 1 Corinthians 13. We strive daily to practice faith, hope, and love. But above all, love.
