11 September 2023
On Sunday, 10 September, The Fifth International Oblate Congress, entitled, “Moving Forward: Living the Wisdom of The Rule”, began with an opening welcome by Abbot Primate Gregory Polan and a German Mass presided by former-Abbot Primate Notker Wolf.
This year marks the first time the week-long International Oblate Congress has been held at Sant’Anselmo. The monastic community has been proud and pleased to welcome 150 participants from 25 countries into our home. The common conferences are being held in the Basilica, while the smaller workshops are conducted in the various classrooms of the Ateneo. The conferences and workshops are live-streamed and one can find the links here: www.obl-osb.net.
In the spring of 2003, then-Abbot Primate Notker Wolf asked the National Directive Council of Italian Benedictine Oblates to organize, in Rome, the First World Congress of Benedictine Oblates. The First World Congress of Benedictine Oblates took place in Rome at the Salesianum Conference Center in September of 2005. The success of that congress convinced all involved to continue gathering every four years. This is the first congress since 2017, the four-year cycle having been interrupted by the pandemic.
The community of Sant’Anselmo wishes the oblates a spiritually enriching and materially successful experience.
