On Monday, 1 November, the Feast of All Saints, Collegio Sant’Anselmo was pleased to welcome The Most Reverend Archbishop Paul Gallagher as the celebrant for our Feast. Archbishop Gallagher is the current Secretary for Relations with States within the Holy See’s Secretariat of State and Titular Archbishop of Hodelm in Scotland.
The next day, on Tuesday, 2 November, a group of Collegio Sant’Anselmo community members visited Verano Monumental Cemetery, the famous 20-centuries-old burial site east of central Rome. Here is the resting place of those monks who died at Sant’Anselmo in the years before it was possible for them to be buried in their home countries.
Abbot Primate Gregory Polan led the prayer service along with Prior Mauritius Wilde, who read the prayers and letters of the ceremony.
Afterward, Prior Mauritius read out loud from a document researched by a former resident of the collegio, Meinrad Hötzel, of Kloster Einsiedeln in Switzerland. The document lists the names and dates of the monks in the cemetery as well as their roles at Sant’Anselmo. Most of the listings have photos. The group found the document fascinating. The link to the pdf is below.
